Thank you for your answers! Next we'll need you to install the chrome extension we mentioned earlier in order to complete the study. If you have a Gmail account, please sign into it now. Please follow the instructions below to install and run the extension.

  1. Download the extension from our server here

  2. Find and unzip the downloaded file "search_saver.zip". If you are using Windows you can unzip by right clicking the file and clicking "Extract all", or if you are on a Mac by double clicking the file.

  3. Open Chrome and click on the menu button in the top right, then on "More Tools" in the drop down menu, and then on "Extensions" in the next menu:

  4. In the Extensions tab that is now open, check the "Developer Mode" box near the top right.

  5. You will see some additional options appear as shown below. Now you can open the unzipped "search_saver" folder from step 2, and drag and drop the entire "search_saver" folder within the unzipped folder onto this page to install the extension. Alternatively you can click on the "Load unpacked extension..." button, find and select the "search_saver" folder within the unzipped folder on your computer, and hit "OK". If this doesn't work, try opening the "search_saver" folder and uploading the folder within that.

  6. You should now see the extension "Search Saver" at the top of your extension list as shown below. Make sure both of the boxes within the red box shown below are checked: "Allow in incognito" and "Allow access to file URLs". These options are necessary for the extension to conduct searches. Your browsing history will not be recorded, and all data will be anonymized and used for research purposes only.

  7. Click on the "S" icon that now appears in the top right of your browser to get the prompt for your Unique ID, and copy and paste this anonymous ID and then hit "Submit".

  8. The extension will now open two new windows - one normal and one incognito - that will run a series of searches in the background. You may minimize these windows and continue working on other things, but please do not close them or turn off your computer until they are finished. This process should take approximately 5 minutes.

  9. When the windows have completed their searches, you will get a pop up saying "All searches have been completed. Thank you for participating. You may now close this window." Once you get this message you may close the windows and proceed to the next page by clicking submit below.
